"A special person" - What Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson thinks of Sheffield United's Rhian Brewster

Brewster made his full Premier League debut for the Blades on Saturday evening, ironically at Anfield, after completing a club-record move to Bramall Lane that could eventually be worth £23m, with add-ons.

The England U21 international was allowed to leave the Premier League champions after seeing his path to the first team blocked by the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, with Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino also at Jürgen Klopp's disposal.

But Brewster's departure, towards the end of the last transfer window, was still keenly felt at Anfield.

"This might sound like a contradiction but like many of the senior players, I was both gutted and delighted for Rhi when he got his move to Sheffield United," Henderson admitted.

"Gutted because he is a top, top, top talent and an even better person. Gutted because he is a natural-born goalscorer and I know if he'd have had an opportunity here, he would have bagged plenty for us.

"But delighted for Rhi at the same time because he deserves to be starting matches regularly - and at this level.

"All of us hope he has a stinker when he plays us, although I know that won't be the case. But we all support him like you wouldn't believe.

"Rhian is such a special person and he deserves all the success that comes his way."

Henderson's comments were echoed by manager Klopp, who said that scoring goals was in Brewster’s DNA.

“He is a coach’s dream, as he is so eager to learn, but also a beacon of positive energy,” Klopp added.

“He had some really hard moments with us, but he never once lost belief and he was always someone who would light up a room, even when he experienced really tough times.

“We miss him, but we are delighted that he has found a fantastic home at Sheffield United.”
