'Some of those misses were Sunday League stuff' - Sheffield United fans' verdict on agonising defeat at West Brom

It was a night of huge frustration for bottom club Sheffield United tonight as they missed a host of chances in a 1-0 defeat against fellow Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Chris Wilder’s side did everything but score against Slaven Bilic’s Baggies, who secured all three points courtesy of Conor Gallagher’s first-half strike in the battle of the basement boys.

The defeat – a ninth in their opening 10 games – leaves the Blades at the bottom of the top-flight with just a point to their name and five points adrift of safety.

Here’s what Unitedites made of tonight’s agonising defeat in the West Midlands.

@Callum1093 Still can't quite believe what I've just watched. Pretty much just sums our season up in a game. Don't want to hear any anti Wilder as his tactics created an abundance of chances today, he doesn't take them. Tough game next time out #twitterblades #sufc

@Matt_Gregory97 Wilder in. #sufc #twitterblades

@KopFinest Don’t even start to talk about Wilder. It seriously is not his fault that 22 shots haven’t gone in the back of the net, played great football with good subs. It’s not one person’s fault, everyone that missed a chance should be taking responsibility.

@MW__photog 3 expected goals. 22 shots. And we can’t score. This is worrying, and scary. In Wilder we trust. ALWAYS.

@Adam70433875 Where do we go from here? I can’t endure 28 more games of this #twitterblades #sufc

@spenwood4 That’s not Wilder’s tactics tonight. We were given so many opportunities (five clear-cut) and we can’t score. League 2 players put them away #twitterblades #sufc

@Garethhayden11 Unfortunately we are going down on that evidence. Yes, we played well, but you can’t finish like that #sufc #twitterblades

@AdamBaguley 3.32 Xg. The highest this season without scoring. That’s so Sheff United. #twitterblades #sufc

@benballcv Dear Chris, get a barn door at Shirecliffe for them to practice with. #twitterblades #sufc

@gill_carly CW looked angry at full time. No small talk with Bilic & quite rightly so after that performance. We’ve created enough chances to win 0-7 yet haven’t even hit the target or made the GK work. Poor in front of goal. Poor decision making. Poor overall #WBASHU #twitterblades #sufc

@PavlovLore We had a hatful of chances, but I am at a loss as to how Mousset managed to hit that final one over the bar. It's actually unbelievable that didn't find its way across the line. We deserved 1-1 at the very least. #SUFC #TwitterBlades

@DRLDeBoer Lack of finish is killing us. NEED GOALS LADS #twitterblades #sufc #WBASHU

@justacword That was crazier than 2020

@Cordeliassmile We decided to consolidate a great first season back in the PL by signing Championship reserves. That’s why we are in this mess. #sufc #twitterblades

@Whale2901 As well as we played, we don’t deserve anything if we can’t put chances away. Some of those misses were Sunday league stuff. Rest of the season a good chance to look at different personal/system. Was fun while it lasted #sufc #twitterblades
