Jake Bennett, the Sheffield United youngster, has joined Chesterfield on loan until the end of the season.

The versatile wing-back joined United from Mickleover Sports, but a serious knee injury ended his 2017/18 season early. He has regained fitness in United’s U23 side, and joins up with Martin Allen’s Conference side for the rest of this campaign.

“Jake is a solid, reliable right-back and he'll go straight into the squad for our game at Halifax on Saturday,” Allen said in a message to Spireites fans.

“I do hope you are all keeping well and I'm sure you all understand why I've gone a bit quiet and just focused on improving all aspects of our training, management and organisation. Soon, the old dog will be barking again!”

Bennett made his first-team debut for United last season, against Walsall in the EFL Cup. Yesterday it was confirmed that another young Blade, Rhys Norrington-Davies, will spend the rest of the season on loan at National League side Barrow AFC.
