Slaven Bilic impressed by Sheffield United man after West Brom debut

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic admitted he had no issues in throwing Callum Robinson straight into the fray and was impressed by the Sheffield United forward’s debut as the Baggies got back to winning form after a desperate run of results on Saturday.

Bilic admitted he tried to sign the Republic of Ireland international in the summer so the majority of the homework had already been done and Robinson played a big part in the victory over Luton Town.

“He did extremely well, especially as it was his first game,” Bilic said.

“Callum we wanted to get in the summer, but he opted for the Premier League which is normal of course.

“When we heard there was a possibility he was available we acted straight away and the club did really well. In time.

“There were other clubs that found out a bit later and it was too late. They wanted to jump in. But we knew the player.

“He trained a couple of days with us but I spoke with him and he is match fit. He was pretty much involved in a lot of Sheffield United games and they are a fit team.

“He is a player that we wanted because he can attack space.

“He is a winger/striker so he is always in the box which is what you need. That is important when other people have the ball.

“And when he is one-on-one with the ball at his feet he is very good. He is a very good player.”
