Simon Jordan says Prince Abdullah 'right to back' Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder

The United owner has spoken today about the club’s lack of activity in the January transfer window as well as a number of other subjects, including why he stuck by Wilder and whether the Blades can pull off the great escape and beat the drop.

He told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show this morning that it ‘would have been very easy to pull the trigger and let Chris go, but we didn't do that’ – a stance which won the support of the one-time Palace chief.

“He’s right to back Chris Wilder,” said Jordan, who also outlined the task which lay ahead for Wilder and his side.

“He’s right to stick by his man because ultimately all of the success he’s had gives (Wilder) some currency.

"The challenge for him is they’ve got to stay at the level they’re at now. I don’t want to get into statto territory, but they’ve got to get the same number of points per game that they’re got from the last five games that we're heralding as a huge recovery. Period.

"They’ve got to get that for the rest of the season, which means to get to 36, 37 or 38 points – which traditionally is the dynamic what should get you relegated or what the fourth team gets to stay up – he’s got to get 1.63 points per game.

"Now if he can get that, that’s the equivalent of finishing fifth in the league.”
