'Should be fun' - Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie relishing reception from Cardiff City fans after Swansea City connections

Former Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is expecting a "hostile" reception at Cardiff City this weekend when Sheffield United sign off the first half of their Championship season before the World Cup break.

McBurnie is hoping to be fit to face his old side's big rivals after damaging an ankle in midweek against Rotherham United, leaving Bramall Lane on crutches.

McBurnie has previously landed himself in trouble with the FA after travelling to a south Wales derby between the Swans and Bluebirds and sitting amongst fans in the away end, making the odd gesture at City fans for good measure.

The striker said: "Definitely, I'm sure I'll get a lovely reception like I always do!

"It's a big game, kind of an unusual one ... it feels like the end of the season because of the break but going into that with three points will change the outlook. It's a massive game and we're doing all we can for three points."

McBurnie is expected to be targeted by the City fans because of his previous connections - something he doesn't particularly mind after playing for a season and a half in front of empty stadiums.

"In lockdown especially, that was one thing I found hard," the in-form striker admitted. "To almost get up for games sometimes. I was doing two or three caffeine shots to try and get some adrenaline because it didn't feel like football. I feel it gets a little two to five per cent out of me. I enjoy hostile atmospheres and so it should be fun."
