Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday will already be casting an eye to next season as players from both teams jet off for much-needed breaks. The Blades have plenty of work to do ahead of next season, with Chris Wilder needing to make significant changes to his squad ahead of a Championship campaign.

The Owls are already acclimatised to the second tier, but they know they need to add quality to haul themselves away from any relegation trouble. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the Steel City clubs and their Championship rivals.

Wilks ‘interest’

Wednesday star Mallik Wilks is reportedly attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens in around two weeks’ time. According to Football Insider, Charlton, Reading and Stockport are all interested in either a loan or permanent deal for Wilks.

The winger made just 15 league appearances last season, but he has thrived in League One throughout his career. It will be interesting to see whether the Owls allow Wilks to leave, and if they do, whether it is a loan or permanent deal.

Palmer on Corberan

Pundit Carlton Palmer has weighted in on reports claiming that Birmingham City and Burnley want West Brom boss Carlos Corberan. “Birmingham City and Burnley have made contact with Carlos Corberan’s representation,” Palmer told Football League World.

“It’s a real pity for West Brom because Carlos did a magnificent job last season with West Bromwich Albion, getting them to finish fifth in the table and in the play-offs. It must be sad and disheartening for the supporters that even though the new owners have come in, it’s been rumoured that Carlos still wants away.

“That is because there is still plenty of turmoil behind the scenes, he doesn’t want to go into the new season without having the option to bring on players and kick on from the fifth place finish from last season. Already players haven’t been re-signed and the season’s just ended, several players are out of contract. So you can see that he’s not particularly happy, and the fact that he’s willing to talk to the likes of Birmingham City, who are in the division lower, says how unhappy he is with the situation behind the deal.”

Rodon request

Leeds United have been urged to snap up Joe Rodon on a permanent deal after the centre-back impressed on loan at Elland Road during the season just gone. The Welshman joined Leeds on loan from Tottenham, and it seems unlikely he will return to Spurs this summer, but he may yet have Premier League options given the form he showed at Leeds last season.

Still, former Leeds boss Simon Grayson has urged the Whites to get Rodon’s signature this summer. The Sky Sports pundit said: “Out of the non-contracted players, I think Joe Rodon would be a real good addition to the team. You don’t play for Tottenham and be a Welsh international without being a good player so I think that fits a bill.”
