APRIL FOOL! Okay, we had a little bit of fun this morning with our story about Sheffield Wednesday temporarily moving to city rivals, United’s Bramall Lane home while their pitch is being fixed up.
However, though it was a joke, the article did cause some debate on social media and football forums about what fans would think if it were to become a reality.
Would Blades fans be happy to allow their neighbours to move in for a while? Would Owls head to Bramall Lane to watch their ‘home’ games?
Let us know what you think in the comments section below...
Sheffield Wednesday will be forced to play away from Hillsborough at the beginning of next season due to work being carried out on their pitch...and Bramall Lane is likely to be their new home.
The two Sheffield giants are locked in talks to agree a deal for the Owls to begin next season’s Championship campaign at the home of their fierce rivals, as an exploratory look at the pitch at Hillsborough has revealed that the problem is worse that first feared.
New Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri stated after his takeover that the pitch, which is among the worst in the Football League at present, would be a priority and during the international break he tasked a team of experts to look into how much work will be needed.
The early warning from experts has indicated that the summer months will not provide enough time to adequately bring the surface up to the required standard and they have had to look into playing games at a different venue, possibly right up until October.
