Sheffield Utd transfer news: Striker bid rejected, Blades still in running

Sheffield United are running out of time to bring in the talent Chris Wilder will have been hoping to secure this month.

It’s not all doom and gloom just yet, of course – there is still a little while for the Blades to recruit fresh faces, and they are still many bookies’ favourites to swoop for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan – but the longer that the wait goes on, the tetchier things are likely to get at Bramall Lane.

Among the other names that United have been linked with this month is Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph.

The Daily Mail suggest that the Blades are one of a number of teams chasing his signature, alongside Tottenham Hotspur and the two Old Firm giants, Celtic and Rangers.

And Wilder’s men, may well have been handed a boost in their bid to land the teenage hitman.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (January 22nd, 1.57pm), Wigan have rejected a bid for the forward from an unnamed Championship club.

While that update would suggest that the Latics are reluctant to sell such a precocious talent, it does also mean that the Blades are still in the running.

And it’s easy to see why they have been drawn to Joseph.

The starlet has shone this season. His shooting accuracy has been 19% higher than summer signing Rhian Brewster, while his xG is 0.14 higher and his dribble success rate is 2% better, as per Wyscout.

Joseph has a boatload of potential, and this could be one to keep an eye on.
