Sheffield United’s “significant” new Adidas kit deal explained as Blades look to past ahead of new chapter
Sheffield United and Adidas have explained their “significant” partnership after linking up again after a four-year absence
Sheffield United’s reunion with leading sportswear giant Adidas is “a significant move as we position ourselves as a progressive club.” That is the verdict of Blades chief executive Stephen Bettis, after the landmark five-year deal was confirmed this lunchtime.
As The Star revealed earlier this week, United were set to return to the three-stripes brand after officially confirming the end of their four-season deal with Errea. Adidas previously made United’s kits for an eight-year period, as well as kitting out some of the leading clubs and countries in world football.
The deal had long since been in the pipeline but all the finer details had not been fully completed until recently, The Star has been told. But the news will be welcomed amongst supporters, with Adidas now embarking on a lengthy refurbishment of the United club shop at Bramall Lane ahead of the release of the new strips and teamwear.
The deal is understood to be a five-year one initially, with the German giants supplying match kits, training wear and lifestyle apparel across men's, women's and academy teams. A club statement spoke of “combining adidas' global expertise with the club's ambition to grow its presence both domestically and internationally.”
And Bettis added: “Adidas is widely recognised as one of the world's leading brands in our industry and we are delighted to partner with them once again as our preparations for the 2026/27 campaign continue. This is a significant move as we position ourselves as a progressive club and are very confident that United will again enjoy the collaboration with Adidas."
An Adidas spokesperson added: “We're proud to bring Adidas and Sheffield United back together. With a rich history and one of the most passionate fanbases in English football - already closely connected to our brand - we're excited to build the next chapter together."
Details of the United kits for the 2026/27 season will be revealed via club and adidas channels in summer 2026. Bettis, speaking earlier this year at a Fan Advisory Board question-and-answer session, revealed hopes of them being on sale for the summer holidays, but refused to offer any guarantees based on experience of past delays.
