Sheffield United's private thoughts on UEFA's stance to finishing the season are revealed

Sheffield United have welcomed UEFA’s decision to establish a working group, tasked with helping its member associations to complete their domestic seasons, as Europe’s governing body continues to shape its response to the coronavirus crisis.

A video conference, organised by researchers at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, provided the Football Association and its counterparts on the continent with an update on the latest situation after every major league under Alexsander Ceferin’s jurisdiction suspended competition due to the pandemic.

Although officials from Bramall Lane have adopted a neutral stance towards the Premier League’s own talks on the issue - preferring to listen to the arguments being put forward before deciding their position - representatives acting on behalf of manager Chris Wilder and the club’s owner HRH Prince Abduallah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud would both prefer to fulfil the fixture schedule rather than abandon it altogether, as some others have proposed.

United were seventh in the table - only five points outside the Champions League places - and preparing for an FA Cup quarter final against Arsenal when England’s leading four divisions were mothballed at the beginning of last month.

UEFA are expected to publish a detailed set of proposals shaped by its taskforce’s findings next month, with the situation being complicated by the fact matches are expected to restart in Germany and Denmark within the next four to six weeks, while people working within the PL and other competitions believe it could be mid-June before they receive the green light.
