Sheffield United's game with Wolverhampton Wanderers is rescheduled to avoid clash with Prince Philip's funeral

Sheffield United’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday has been rescheduled to an evening kick off, to avoid clashing with the funeral of Prince Philip.

Originally due to be played at 3pm, the game at Molineux will now kick off at 8.15pm to avoid clashing with the funeral, which is scheduled for 3pm.

A statement from United read: “As a mark of respect for His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Premier League has rescheduled the match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and United, due to be played on Saturday 17th April at 3pm.

"The fixture will now kick off later in the day at 8.15pm to avoid a clash with the Ceremonial Royal Funeral.”

The change comes after talks between the Premier League and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport regarding arrangements to avoid a clash.

The World Snooker Tour is liaising with the DCMS with regard to the World Championship, which is scheduled to start on Saturday in Sheffield.

United and Arsenal both observed two minutes of silence to pay their respect to the Prince on Sunday evening, with black armbands also being worn and flags around Bramall Lane being flown at half mast.

Premiership Rugby has announced that the kick-offs at all four round 16 matches on Saturday have been moved, while the English and Wales Cricket Board has said all nine LV= Insurance County Championship matches will pause for an hour and 20 minutes.

The ECB has also asked all recreational cricket clubs to stop play for an hour to pay their respects, alongside observing the one minute silence at 3pm.

The Chelsea v Manchester City FA Cup semi-final is due to kick off at 5.30pm at Wembley.High-profile race meetings at Ayr and Newbury scheduled for Saturday have been switched to the following afternoon.

As a result, the Coral Scottish Grand National fixture at the Scottish venue and the Dubai Duty Free Spring Trials meeting at the west Berkshire course will now be held on Sunday.

No racing is due to take place in Britain between 2.45pm and 4.15pm on Saturday. Meetings at Bangor, Thirsk, Brighton and Nottingham will go ahead but with different start times to ensure races do not clash with the ceremony.
