Sheffield United youngster takes well-trodden path on loan to Rotherham United

Another young Sheffield United player has gone out on loan

Sheffield United have sent one of their young stars on loan, but he’s not gone very far.

Jili Buyabu has made the short trip up the road to Rotherham United on a temporary move until the end of the season.

This will be the 22 year-old’s fourth loan spell, having already been at Motherwell, briefly, Rochdale and Forest Green Rovers.

Wing-back Buyabu joined United from Hornchurch five years ago and has been a key figure in the Under 21s side.

The Londoner will be hoping his spell will provide a similar develepmental result as team mate Jamal Baptiste who spent last season at the New York Stadium.

Despite the Millers’ relegation to League Two, Baptiste turned in regular strong performances and came back to United this summer staking a claim for a first team place and getting plenty of opportunities in pre-season.

Buyabo is the second United player this week to make a loan move.

Teenage defender Zain Tahir has also gone to League Two and Oldham Athletic.

The 19-year-old is well thought of and spent a few weeks in the north-west this summer to get used to his surroundings.

Oldham boss Mickey Mellon said of Tahir’s signing: “We're really pleased to bring Zain to the football club. He's been with us during pre-season, which has given him a great opportunity to settle into the group, understand how we work and show us exactly what he's capable of.

“He's a young defender we've admired and it's been clear from day one that he's got the character, professionalism and hunger to make the most of this opportunity.

“For a young player, it's about finding the right environment to take that next step and we’re able to provide that place for him to continue his development. He's athletic, composed in possession and enjoys defending properly, which are qualities that fit the way we want to play.

“Just as importantly, Zain has a real desire to learn and improve every day. We're delighted to have him with us for the season and we're looking forward to seeing the impact he can make.”
