Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic and Axel Tuanzebe all took part in a training session overseen by Ole Gunnar Solskjær this morning, after receiving the green light to step-up their comebacks following periods on the sidelines.

Shaw has spent the majority of the campaign nursing a hamstring problem while his fellow defender Tuanzebe is recovering from the hip complaint which has forced him to miss his club’s last seven games.

Matic, the vastly experienced Serbian midfielder, has also been making progress in his own battle for fitness and completed a series of warm-weather sessions in Dubai earlier this month.

Although Solskjær will welcome the strides the trio have made ahead of this weekend’s meeting with a Sheffield United side unbeaten in its last five outings, the Norwegian’s joy has been tempered by fears Scott McTominay could be forced to sit out the match.

Medical staff at Old Trafford had hoped the Scotland international would be declared available selection after being forced to withdraw from his country’s recent meetings with Cyprus and Kazakhstan. But reports emanating from the North-West last night suggested McTominay’s involvement remains in doubt.
