Dean Henderson has revealed why Sheffield United's players are prepared to "run through a brick wall" for manager Chris Wilder.

The goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester United, explained Wilder's motivational powers and emotional investment in his football club inspire the squad to perform.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's game against Preston North End, Henderson said: "Within the team, it is excellent.

"There is probably nothing more important in a club than all the lads being tight, sticking together, being friends and wanting to do well for each other and wanting success for each other.

"And obviously, there's the manager on top of that. Me and (defender) John Egan are always making jokes when he says 'come on.' But you will run through brick walls for him as you know how passionate he is and how much he wants the club to do well. It is outstanding. Seriously."

Henderson has excelled since arriving from Old Trafford during the close season and, describing the affinity he feels for the Championship club, recently raised the possibility of returning next term. Although the 21-year-old is clearly settled behind the scenes, Wilder, a lifelong United supporter, has helped him perform on the pitch too.

"He is great in the changing room with his pre-match speech," Henderson continued. "If you feel any nerves or anything, you don't feel them afterwards.
"You feel great and just want to go out and go to war. It is mad really, he is really good at what he does. That is why he has been so successful, there's no secret to that.

"It is new for me as I have only worked under a few managers. But to see what he is like with the players and around the club, it is a breath of fresh air. I am sure he won't mind (the jokes)."

Henderson’s hopes:

United climbed to sixth in the table when they drew with Birmingham City on Wednesday night.
Wilder used his pre-match media briefing to defend his players' performance - "We weren't at our best but they've got nothing to be ashamed of because they went out to try and win" - and Henderson echoed that sentiment.

"I think the lads, with what they've done this season on top of the success they had long before I got here,  should have bought themselves a little leniency," Henderson said. "They've earned it and they've been playing well.
"I'm loving life here. The club is excellent, the manager is outstanding and the goalkeeping coach (Darren Ward) is brilliant."

"The fans here are something else," Henderson added. "If we do achieve something, and I see no reason why we shouldn't be successful, then they're going to be a huge part of that."
