Wing-back Baldock scored his second Premier League goal of the season on Sunday in United's 2-1 win at Norwich, having earlier crossed for Enda Stevens to equalise.

Both men are now flourishing at the top level after enduring some difficult times in their careers - Baldock in particular, with a spell in the Conference with Tamworth on his footballing CV from earlier in his career.

United manager Chris Wilder has assembled a squad containing many players who have been rejected elsewhere, but have come back stronger and with a point to prove.

And Baldock admitted: "It's such a good attribute to have, to be able to bounce back and that mentality.

“I look around the dressing room and I feel a confidence every time I go out onto the pitch. You've got lads there who have experienced other leagues and disappointment, I have myself.

“It's not a sob story, but everyone's been told they're not good enough at some stage of their career and I think that's a big part of the gaffer's recruitment, mentality. We've got 20-odd lads who will put it all out there for the cause and can bounce back from disappointment."

Sunday's victory sent United to 22 points, over halfway to the magical 40-point mark and safety, and Baldock added: "I think we're just enjoying the ride, we just want it to last as long as we can. We want to push ourselves to see how far we can go.

“When we got into the Championship people were saying, 'How are they going to do? It's all momentum, momentum, momentum.'

"We had a season in there to cement ourselves, gone again when people didn't think we would and we've come into this league.

"We got written off before a ball was kicked but we just rolled our sleeves up and had a go.

“I think we're a match for anyone on our day and in Sunday's second half, we were much more like ourselves."
