United will look to extend their unbeaten run to eight games when Steve Bruce’s men visit South Yorkshire, for the second of three games in seven days for Chris Wilder’s Blades.

And Basham, speaking at United’s pre-match press briefing this morning, said: “You can see we have confidence and we’re playing well. We don’t want to take our foot off the gas.

“There’ll be times when the gaffer has to change the team a bit, because of suspensions, but everyone’s in top form and raring to go and get out at Bramall Lane tomorrow night.”

George Baldock, John Fleck and John Lundstram all enter the game against Newcastle with four bookings against their name, and only one more away from an automatic one-match ban.

When asked how he has adjusted to the Premier League, Basham admitted: “It feels normal now. There’s the media side of it, and we've had to take a lot in our stride, but the lads are doing that.

“Sunday’s game [a 1-1 draw at Wolves] shows how far we’ve come. Last time [a 3-0 defeat at Molineux], we couldn’t lay a glove on them.

“It’s amazing to see how well everyone is doing. The manager will want us to pick up as many points as possible, stay in the Premier League and make a bit of a legacy.”
