Sheffield United manager David Weir has revealed his thoughts on the club’s fixture schedule next season, writes James Shield.
The former Scotland international, who took charge of the League One club last week, begins his reign with a home fixture against Notts County before Burton Albion visit South Yorkshire in the first round of the Capital One Cup.
United travel to Brentford on August 10 - seven days after the clash with County - before facing Colchester and newly promoted Bradford City.
“We play everyone twice,” Weir said. “So, in that regard, the only thing I’m really concerned about is making sure we are properly prepared for each match.
“We’ll do our homework on the opposition and always pay them the respect they deserve and warrant.
“But the focus here will always be on us. Trying to make sure we fulfil our potential and achieve the standards to which we aspire.”
“It’s a long season and the games come thick and fast at this level,” Weir added. “That’s something we must be ready to cope with and thrive on.
“I’m genuinely excited about things getting underway. I’m looking forward to working hard and working together.”
United are due to sign-off the 2013/14 campaign with a home game against Coventry City.
