Sheffield United wait to learn Premier League resumption date fate ahead of fresh announcement

The Premier League will meet again today, with representatives from Sheffield United and the rest of the division's clubs coming together via video call ahead of an announcement regarding the potential resumption of the 2019/20 season.

As the number of coronavirus-related cases and deaths continues to spiral across the world, football has been placed under lockdown, with the professional game currently suspended in the vast majority of countries.

Earlier in the week, reports suggested that plans had been developed to complete the remaining 92 matches between June and July, with players training in isolated camps and the matches taking place at training grounds - while still being televised to fulfil

broadcasting obligations.

However, the idea is still very much at the planning stage, and concerns remain over the practicality and safety of hosting the tournament-style event amid the public health crisis.

As well as pushing back the original April 30th restart date, talks are also set to include the hot topic of player wages, with cuts and deferrals, following criticism after clubs such as Spurs opted to use the governments furlough scheme to pay staff up to £2,500 per-month.

Yesterday, the healthy secretary Matt Hancock urged top tier footballers to take a pay cut amid the "sacrifices" being made by others.

Meanwhile, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker branded the call for Premier League players to take the hit had been a "massive pile-on", and urged people to allow time for arrangements to be made before sending criticism their way.
