Sheffield United wait to learn the reasons behind proposed switch of venue for their clash with Manchester United

Sheffield United’s visit to Manchester United will take place at a neutral venue rather than Old Trafford, it has emerged, after police requested a change to where the match is staged.

The fixture is among six matches thought to be subject to the guidance, although The Star understands the reasons for the switch have yet to be communicated to officials at Bramall Lane.

Chris Wilder’s side are set to return to action on June 17, with an away game against Aston Villa, when the season resumes following a three months break.

United were seventh in the table - only five points outside the Champions League places - when the campaign was suspended in March because of the coronavirus crisis.

Wilder’s squad resumed contact training this week, after the Premier League’s 20 members voted to roll-out phase two of their ‘Project Restart’ plan.
