The third round of the FA Cup is in sight but Sheffield United have Oldham to overcome before they can look to Monday's draw.
Sheffield United (Possible): Howard, K Wallace, Collins, McGahey, Freeman, Adams, Basham, Hammond, Done, Sammon, Sharp.
Oldham Athletic (Possible): Cornell, Brown, Mills, J Wilson, B Wilson, Kelly, Fulton, Yeates, Cassidy, Philliskirk, Poleon.
This will be the first meeting between Sheffield United and Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup since March 1915. On the same day that the SS Blonde became the first merchant ship to be attacked by aircraft during World War One, the two teams eked-out a goalless draw in Lancashire before United won the replay 3-0 at Bramall Lane seven days later. Oldham also required a replay to beat Mansfield Town in the previous round of this season’s competition while United overcame Worcester City.
ONE TO WATCH
Danny Philliskirk, aged 24, has scored four goals in his last 10 appearances for Oldham Athletic. One of those came during last month’s first round replay at Boundary Park when Dominic Poleon, another former Sheffield United player, was also on target. Poleon made more starts for United during his spell on loan at Bramall Lane, from Yorkshire rivals Leeds, two years ago than Philliskirk did during a 25 month stint in South Yorkshire. The 22-year-old failed to score in any of his seven outings.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Eddie Ilderton (Tyne & Wear): Has not sent-off a player this season but cautioned Matt Done when he oversaw United’s win over Fleetwood two months ago and Liam Kelly during Oldham’s defeat by Burton 11 days later.
