At the very beginning of the window, Chris Wilder hoped to recruit two arrivals on loan but here we are on the final day with nobody through the door.
Jesse Lingard’s move to West Ham United was a blow as the Blades felt they were in with a shout of bringing the England midfielder to Bramall Lane.
And unfortunately for United, the final day speculation isn't hinting at much activity either.
In a report by RMC Sport, United are said to have enquired about Reims midfielder Marshall Munetsi – but it seems Derby County are the club pushing to sign him.
Munetsi, a Zimbabwean international, has received a proposal from Wayne Rooney’s Rams, and there is no suggestion the Blades act on their initial approach.
Apparently, Reims “are not closed off to the possibility of accepting a loan with an option to buy”, should the Blades unexpectedly change their stance.
Adding to the January misery for Wilder and co, long-term target Ben Davies looks to be heading to Premier League champions Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for a central defender after injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Fabinho and surprisingly, the Preston ace has been sounded out.
With the 25-year-old out-of-contract at the end of the season, the Reds have agreed a £2million fee and will send Sepp van den Berg in the other direction on loan.
Davies, who was viewed as the ideal replacement for the injured Jack O’Connell, had been close to joining Celtic, however Liverpool have scuppered that.
Meanwhile, Lys Mousset is reportedly attracting interest from a European club.
