Sheffield United transfer rumours: Defender told to snub Bramall Lane switch, Blades and Newcastle miss out on Welsh starlet

Rumours linking Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson to Sheffield United have resurfaced, despite Chris Wilder’s departure.

The on-loan Sunderland ace was first linked with a move to Bramall Lane whilst Wilder was in charge. Now the boyhood Blade has gone, transfer targets may be reassessed.

Nevertheless, United continue to be mentioned as a potential suitor for the 21-year-old, who is approaching the final year of his contract.

And according to Football Insider, if the Blades’ interest remains genuine, then he could be snapped up for £2million this summer.

However, Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips has urged the youngster to snub Sheffield United and become a hero at his former club.

He told the same publication: “It is a difficult scenario if Sunderland were to go up. They will want to keep hold of him but it would be tough if a Premier League team comes in for him.

“You would like to think that he would choose Sunderland over Sheffield United though. My advice would be stay.

“He has never experienced the Stadium of Light when it is full. If he helps them get back to the Championship he will become a hero.

“There will be 35,000 maybe 40,000 fans in next season if they do. It will then sink in for him how massive and how great a club Sunderland is.”

Meanwhile, United may have missed out on Cardiff City youngster Kieron Evans, who has signed a new two-year deal at the Championship club.

The Blades, along with West Brom, Newcastle and Burnley had made their interest known, as per Wales Online, but the 19-year-old has decided to extend his stay at the Welsh club.
