Last weekend's loss - their sixth on the bounce - to Wolves saw the Blades' relegation confirmed at long last, with six games of the campaign left to go.
Speaking after their drop down to the Championship was confirmed, interim manager Nigel Heckingbottom told the Star: “There’s a lot of hurt in there (the dressing room), but there’s been a lot of hurt in there for a long time.
“It’s (relegation) been confirmed now, even though everyone has been talking about it for a long time. Now we know our fate.
“I thought those 30 seconds or so (in which Wolves took the lead via a lethal counter-attack) summed up pretty much the entire season. It’s an unforgiving league, especially whenever you look at the table because supposedly everyone is better than us.”
Next up, United host Brighton & Hove Albion at Bramall Lane on Saturday night, in a game where the opposition will be looking to all but secure top tier football for 2021/22.
