Sheffield United transfer news: Bramall Lane player touted for shock PL switch, Blades demand 'substantial fee'

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could be a target for Leeds United this summer, according to pundit Noel Whelan.

The England U21 international has produced a number of eye-catching displays this term, despite his side being rooted to the foot of the Premier League table for the entire campaign.

Ramsdale joined the Blades from relegated Bournemouth last summer for a fee of around £18.5 million.

Since then, he has conceded 52 goals in 30 Premier League matches, but has also averaged of 3.5 saves per game, as per Wyscout.

The 22-year-old gave a good account of himself against Leeds in the Blades’ last outing, and Whelan believes that he could end up being an unlikely target for the Whites in the coming months.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Ramsdale could be a possibility they’re looking at.

"There isn’t really anyone in that side bar the goalkeeper that you’d have a good look at. With that being said, is he going to get ahead of Meslier right now?

“Sheffield United are not the same team they were last season. We had opportunities we should have taken but Ramsdale had a good game.

“Performance-wise, they aren’t getting forward and there’s a lack of belief. So you’d imagine a few of their players will be leaving in the summer.”

Leeds are expected to offload veteran Spaniard Kiko Casilla this summer, as per Football Insider, and will therefore be on the lookout for a new understudy to act as backup for young Frenchman Illan Meslier.

Elsewhere, further details have emerged regarding Sheffield United’s plan for Sander Berge this summer.

Voetbal24 reported earlier in the week that Manchester City have identified the Norwegian as a replacement for Fernandinho, and could look to snap the 23-year-old at the end of the season.

But United won’t go down without a fight, and are expected to demand a “substantial fee” for the player, according to reports.

If that unspecified hefty price tag is not met, then it is suggested that the Blades will have no qualms with hanging on to Berge, whether they are in the Championship or not.
