Sheffield United transfer news: Blades urged to seal shock Premier League striker deal as Aston Villa eye ex-Bramall Lane favourite

Chris Wilder has been open in his desire to strengthen Sheffield United’s squad this month as the transfer window approaches its final few weeks.

The Blades boss has made a new centre-half and midfielder his top priorities before the February 1 deadline after losing Jack O’Connell and Sander Berge to long-term injuries.

That said, Wilder is also open to signing a striker with Hibernian’s Kevin Nisbet also being monitored by members of United’s technical department.

And in terms of attacking options, former Manchester City and Sunderland defender Nedum Onuoha has weighed in on who he thinks the Blades should recruit.

Andy Carroll, anyone?

Onuoha, speaking to BBC 5 Live, as highlighted by HITC, said: “I am looking at a team like Sheffield United and thinking to myself ‘do they really want to try and stay up this year or are they just going to see what happens?

“I think because of the fact they have scored nine goals in the league this year. I think they need to bring in a striker who is a different type of threat to what they have tried so far.

“For me, somebody with a point to prove, because for the past couple of years, he has not done much at all. Even if it was to be a loan, is for them to bring in an Andy Carroll, so they have got an aerial threat.

“Not just to score headers in the box and so on. It means they can get the ball front to back and bring in their attacking players in a different sort of way – So, bring someone in who brings in a sense of chaos and just go for it.”

Here’s a round-up of some of the other transfer rumours involving Sheffield United, including Carroll, and their Premier League rivals this morning:
