Sheffield United transfer news: Blades set sights on League One star as West Ham eye Aaron Ramsdale

An honest Chris Wilder appeared to admit defeat in Sheffield United’s battle for Premier League survival, with the focus now on laying the groundwork for a Championship promotion charge.

Defeat to champions Liverpool on Sunday evening leaves the Blades 15 points adrift of safety with only 12 matches remaining, all-but sealing the club’s fate.

Wilder acknowledged United’s thoughts are now turning towards making an immediate return to the top-flight.

He said: "We don’t have the real Premier League experience of some of the teams. But the boys will learn from this season and what has happened. The challenge has to be to come roaring back.”

One key aspect in planning for next season is the summer transfer window. Wilder has insisted there must be no fire sale at Bramall Lane.

Aaron Ramsdale was linked with a move to West Ham United on Monday but the goalkeeper has already expressed his desire to stay put.

“Whatever league we’re in next season, I want to be a part of it and I want to be able to help the team,” said the 22-year-old.

"That starts now, being consistent every week, on and off the pitch.”

Naturally, Wilder will hope to attract fresh faces to United and according to Football Insider, Dion Sanderson is on his radar.

The Wolves defender is currently performing extremely well on loan at League One side Sunderland, hence why the Blades have been alerted to his signature.

It is claimed Blades scouts watched Sanderson during Sunderland’s recent 2-1 defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

His temporary move to Wearside last summer caught many by surprise as the Black Cats beat off competition from Championship clubs – including Swansea City and Cardiff City.

Here are the latest transfer headlines from Sheffield United and their Premier League rivals:
