CHRIS Morgan has saluted Sheffield United’s new-found defensive solidity but has stressed: “We know we have got more to offer and can be better.”
Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Oldham Athletic was United’s fifth League One match in succession without conceding a goal.
Indeed, Danny Wilson’s troops, who welcome MK Dons to Bramall Lane on Saturday, have accrued 16 points from the last six matches to boost their automatic promotion hopes.
Former Blades defender turned coach Morgan has told The Star: “I work closely with the back four throughout the week and on match-days and the lads have done really well.
“They have a great work ethic and want to keep clean sheets. They want to get their heads on stuff when the balls come into the box. If you have a strong back four, then you have got that platform to build on.”
“We are pleased with our form over the last couple of weeks,” he added. “But we are always greedy and we know we have got more to offer and we know we can be better.”
Jamie Murphy and Jonathan Forte are likely to be declared fit for the clash with 11th-placed Dons to bolster United’s attacking options. The duo have missed two and four matches respectively due to groin problems.
Morgan believes United possess the ingredients to finish in the top two.
“We have given ourselves a great chance with the results we have had,” he acknowledged. “It comes down to having the grit and determination to stay up there. You have to win games when you are up against it. The experience and youthfulness that we have got in the squad will be tested but we have just got to keep doing the right things.”
