Anel Ahmedhodzic has been speaking about his club of preference as he potentially prepares to leave Sheffield United.

Sheffield United star Anel Ahmedhodzic has set his sights high as he potentially prepares to leave Bramall Lane this summer. Ahmedhodzic has been with the Blades since 2022, joining from Malmo and going on to make 65 league appearances.

The defender was a key part of the Championship promotion side and he remained a key player in last season’s Premier League struggles. The 25-year-old now has been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane this summer, with top-flight clubs from across Europe reportedly expressing an interest.

Ahmedhodzic, who also has a Sweden cap, is currently on international duty with Bosnia and Herzegovina, facing England at St James’ Park on Monday night. And ahead of that fixture, he has admitted his admiration for Premier League champions Manchester City,

“When I was about 10 and Edin Dzeko started playing for City, I started supporting them,” he said. “I also liked Yaya Toure. Although they have now both left and I’ve now played alongside Edin for Bosnia, I still watch City whenever I can. One day in the future, I would love to play for them.”

The defender was linked with a move to Napoli back in January, and speaking about the links back then, Chris Wilder said: "We have to calm that and have those one-to-one conversations which I have done with Anel. He’s an honest boy and I believe every word he says. He has to look after his career, I understand that, but speculation is a good thing that these players are highly thought of I’d rather have people saying good things about my players than not."

The Blades boss has been critical of players wanting to leave during the season just gone, although he did not name names when calling out his squad. "I won't name names but there were a few players out there who wanted to get out there when the fourth went in. I can't accept that," Wilder said in late April.

"When they smelt blood and were big enough to go for it, we went under. There has been a catalogue of really poor goals during the season. At the moment, there is pain going through pain in every department of the football club - especially the supporters. But we can't turn it in. The division is too powerful for us individually and collectively. I'm not being defeatist - I'm being a realist - but the season has gone."

In any case, Manchester City may be aiming high for the 25-year-old, although Chelsea have been linked in recent days. If a deal can be found, it is likely the centre-back will find his way back to the Premier League, or at least to a top division somewhere. Serie A sides Napoli and Atalanta have also been named as teams who are interested in the defender.

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on the free transfer of Tosin Adarabioyo, who will leave Fulham at the end of this month when his deal expires. It is unclear how strong their reported interest in Ahmedhodzic is, given they are already close to bolstering their centre-back options.
