Sharp, who has found the back of the net more times than any other player in English football since the turn of the millennium, scored his 99th league goal for the Blades on Sunday in their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Despite turning 35 next February, Sharp is still regarded by many as the best finisher on United's books - and recognises similar qualities in Brewster, the England U21 international whose football career is still in its infancy.

Brewster, 14 years Sharp's junior, made his Blades debut against Fulham following a £20m move from the Premier League champions.

And Sharp, speaking ahead of this weekend's game against Jurgen Klopp's men at Anfield, said: "He's just made his Premier League debut and he's got the ability, you can see that.

"He's a great finisher and he's got talents.

"We've paid a lot of money for him, so we need to give him time. But he will score goals because I can see that instinct in him.

"We need to get him up to speed with how we play, he's a young lad but he's eager to learn and he's done well over the last few weeks.

"So I'm sure he'll get his chance and he'll be eager to take it, too."

Sharp's experience of scoring his first Premier League goal at the Kop end of Bramall Lane was tainted by the fact that there were no fans there to share the moment with him.

"I was due a goal," he admitted.

"But hopefully I get the next one [and move to 100] quickly. I would love for it to be in front of a full house at Bramall Lane but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

"I'm just happy to score goals. It's about the team and I'm happy to get something out of the game.

"Hopefully it [the 100th] comes at Anfield.

"It's a great place to play football so we will go there and give it our best shot."
