Sheffield United set to provide an update on injured defender ahead of Chelsea's visit
Sheffield United are poised to provide an update on the exact nature of the injury George Baldock suffered during their win over West Bromwich Albion, amid fears the defender could be set to miss Sunday’s Premier League game against Chelsea and next week’s FA Cup meeting with Bristol City.
Baldock limped-out of Tuesday night’s fixture, which saw United come from a goal behind to score a vitally important victory in their battle for survival.
Despite his jubilation at the scoreline, United manager Chris Wilder, who had admitted beforehand that his side’s hopes of retaining top-flight status would effectively be over if they lost to Sam Allardyce’s side, acknowledged the sight of Baldock apparently damaging a hamstring had taken some of the shine off the result.
“There’s always something that seems to happen,” Wilder said. “Even when we get what we want out of a game, there also seems to be a set-back but we’ll just get on with it, the same as we always do.
“It’s too early to say what George has done and how serious it is. It didn’t look too bad so fingers crossed. But until they’re examined properly, it’s always difficult to say.”
Wilder is expected to reveal the seriousness of Baldock’s condition, and outline a likely time frame for his recovery, when United hold their pre-match media conference tomorrow.
United, who have won five of their last seven outings in all competitions, are bottom of the table but moved to within a point of West Brom when Jayden Bogle and Billy Sharp cancelled-out Matt Phillips’ opener for the visitors from The Hawthorns.
