Jose Baxter probably could have played against Burton Albion but Nigel Adkins had other plans.
Four bookings for Chris Basham and a slight niggle for Baxter was the reason for the Scouser's absence with Adkins admitting that another yellow for 'Bash' and Baxter aggravating his knock could have left the Blades low in numbers in the middle of the park ahead of the Port Vale trip.
“You have to weigh all these things up when you consider your selection," he said.
Meanwhile, Adkins unsurprisingly maintains his air of positivity ahead of the journey to the Potteries.
He said: “We go away from home and, once again, we’ll strive to bring back the three points, as we always endeavour to do. That’s what we did at Burton."
And our columnist Alan Biggs has been having his say on the height of United's transfer priorities.
Biggsy wrote: "This column has been kept up at night researching the figures and doing the maths. It should get out more, I know!
Doubtless no-one will be shocked by the findings. The Blades, in belying their brawny reputation of previous eras, are quite a small team these days. In fact, very small."
