Sheffield United have received a boost ahead of Saturday’s derby against South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers, after loan star Paddy McCarthy confirmed he will return to Bramall Lane on loan ahead of the weekend.
McCarthy, who featured on the bench for parent club Crystal Palace in their 1-0 defeat at Manchester United last weekend, is understood to have agreed a loan deal until the end of the year - but sources close to Selhurst Park believe that the player is open to the possibility of spending the rest of the season at the League One club.
“I’m set to go back this week and play against Doncaster Rovers,” McCarthy said.
“My fitness is perfect. The first couple of games, it took me a while but the more I play, the better I feel and the easier it is to recover.
“I played five game consecutively for them with no problems. It’s about getting back into it and I’m enjoying playing week in, week out. There is a lot of quality in the league, especially at Sheffield United. They do things properly and play the right way.
“They looked after me fantastically and I’m looking forward to getting back up there this week for another deal up until January.
“That’s the plan and we’ll take it from there.”
