Speaking ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Pep Guardiola’s side, Chris Wilder confirmed Lowe could face the four time Premier League champions having resumed full training at the Steelphalt Academy.

Lowe, a summer signing from Derby County, was forced to sit out United’s trip to Liverpool six days ago after complaining of blurred vision following an accidental collision with an opponent during the recent draw with Fulham. However, under the terms of Football Association guidelines designed to protect players diagnosed with the condition, the 23-year-old was forced to sit out the defeat at Anfield.

“Max missed out by a day, at Liverpool, and that was really frustrating,” Wilder, who also recruited Jayden Bogle from County, said. “Him and Jayden have been really pushing. We’re really looking forward to him (Lowe) starting his career with Sheffield United. Both of them in fact.

“We’re looking forward to seeing them bring the qualities they’ve got to the Premier League with us.”

"It was a shame for Max, that he was so close,” Wilder added. “But quite rightly, things are put in place to make sure the well-being of players comes first and so no risks were taken whatsoever. That was the right thing to do.”

Lowe was making his top-flight debut for United when he was forced off less than a quarter-of-an-hour into the contest with Scott Parker’s team. Like Bogle, Wilder has been impressed with the youngster’s progress since arriving at Bramall Lane. Although coaching staff will be loath to change the starting eleven which impressed on Merseyside - Sander Berge firing United in front before goals from Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota propelled the hosts to victory - Lowe’s presence provides Wilder with a degree of tactical flexibility after selecting Ben Osborn at wing-back and deploying Enda Stevens at centre-half against Liverpool.

With John Fleck still nursing a back complaint and John Lundstram’s refusal to agree a new contract casting his involvement into doubt, Osborn could be moved back into midfield as United prepare to face opponents with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling at their disposal.

Jack O’Connell and Lys Mousset are also long-term absentees, although the latter is making progress in his battle to recover from a foot injury.

“There’s no other issues,” Wilder said. “Max is back. Fleck is out for about four weeks. Lys has got his boot off and is back working on the grass. We’re looking at him to progress in the next three to four weeks. It was a couple of months four weeks ago.

“For that type of injury, it really isn’t an exact science or an exact date. We are possibly looking around the start of December for him to be available. It might be a few weeks after that. These are the important times for Lys, and for us, because we’ll be ramping that work up.”
