Sheffield United provide an update on Sander Berge's availability against West Ham

Consultations between officials at Bramall Lane and health officials in Oslo are now taking place to decide whether the midfielder can face West Ham at Bramall Lane tomorrow, although United’s refusal to rule him out of the fixture suggests they believe he should be able to take part.

Lars Lagerback’s squad were refused permission to travel to Sunday’s game against Romania, with government ministers refusing to grant an exemption to the country’s coronavirus travel restrictions.

That meant the Norwegian FA had to cobble together an alternative squad for their next Nations League tie against Austria. That took place on Wednesday, 48 hours after Berge arrived back in South Yorkshire. Although United manager Chris Wilder refused to elaborate on the 22-year-old’s situation during a media briefing yesterday - which included several Norwegian journalists - Berge is understood to have tested negative for the respiratory disease before the teleconference.

“I’ve left Sander in quarantine to the medical department,” Wilder said. “We are waiting on instructions from them, to try and give him the all clear. None of our players have tested positive for a long time, since we returned to training in June, so the bubble we are in is obviously a safe one.”

"I’ve left is all up to the medical people, like I say,” Wilder added. “They’ve been brilliant all the way through this.”
