Sheffield United provide an update on Enda Stevens

Sheffield United defender Enda Stevens was withdrawn at half-time as a precautionary measure, his manager Chris Wilder admitted, following Saturday’s draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Stevens, who opened the scoring with a superb finish before Neal Maupay levelled for the visitors, was replaced by Ben Osborn after the interval having complained of a muscle problem.

Wilder, who praised Osborn’s performance in an unfamiliar role, said: “Enda is an injury. He flagged up a tight calf so it wasn’t worth taking the risk.

“Losing Enda was a bit of a blow but hopefully he’ll be okay.”

With United not scheduled to return to Premier League action until March 7 - when Norwich City travel to Bramall Lane - Wilder is confident the Republic of Ireland international will be available for selection against Daniel Farke’s side.

But Stevens is unlikely to feature when United face Reading in the FA Cup four days before City’s arrival in South Yorkshire.

Osborn was signed from Nottingham Forest last summer and Wilder said: “I thought he did really well, especially being a midfielder and having to slot in there.”
