In a document seen by The Times, UEFA has told national leagues that they should be able to detail their plans, "including the date of restart and the relevant competition format."

UEFA also add that leagues can end their season now if “specific economic and financial justifications, which would make continuing the season to its conclusion financially imprudent or which could put at risk the long-term financial stability of the domestic competition and/or clubs”.

United have not played since early March, when the season was suspended in a bid to halt the spread of Covid-19, and UEFA's date will increase the pressure on the Premier League to find a solution.

The season could be finished behind closed doors, while the idea has also been floated to play the remaining games at neutral venues.
