Sheffield United players in action against Yorkshire rivals and there could be more to come

Sheffield United are understood to be in the process of arranging behind closed doors games against Barnsley and Hull City as their preparations for June 17th’s return to Premier League action continue to gather pace following last weekend’s meeting with Huddersfield Town.

Danny Cowley’s side made the short journey to South Yorkshire on Saturday, after accepting an invitation to take part in two small-scale sessions with Chris Wilder’s players.

Sources close to Oakwell report that Gerhard Struber’s team has also been approached, while their Championship rivals from East Yorkshire fall within the 90 minute radius the PL and English Football League insist clubs must adhere to because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

United were seventh in the table when competition was suspended because of the worsening health situation in March, five points outside the Champions League qualification slots with a game in hand on fourth-placed Chelsea.

United will take part in the first match since the season was mothballed when they travel to Aston Villa in nine days time.

Later that evening, Manchester City are set to lock horns with Mikel Arteta’s charges ahead of the first full round of top-flight contests.

United then visit Newcastle and Manchester United on June 21 and 24 respectively, before hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Bramall Lane early next month.
