But victory may have come at a price as Iliman Ndiaye, their star man this season who opened the scoring, limped off with injury in the second half.
Jayden Bogle scored twice for the Blades, either side of Nick Powell’s consolation for the hosts – as United made harder work than they perhaps needed to of adding another three points to their tally.
Here’s how we rated the Blades players...
13. Subs: Tommy Doyle 6.5
Replaced City pal McAtee once again and did superbly in the build-up to Bogle's second, great anticipation and cross to pick out Bogle in the middle Photo: Andrew Yates
14. Daniel Jebbison 6
Came on for Ndiaye and looked to make his presence felt early on against a man over twice his age in Jagielka. Could have forced Souttar to see red but the ref spared him and only produced a yellow Photo: Isaac Parkin
