The Blades twice trailed to Rovers but came back twice before Tommy Doyle scored a screamer of a winner to book United’s place at Wembley in the dying minutes of the game.
Here’s how we rated United’s players on an afternoon to remember ...
5. John Egan 7
Confident bringing the ball out of defence early on and a lovely ball sent McAtee clear one-on-one for what should really have been the opening goal. Was caught out by poor play in front of him as Szmodics raced through to put Rovers ahead and could do little to avoid it Photo: Andrew Yates
6. Jack Robinson 7
Looked to have made a good block to prevent Gallagher opening the scoring but after a VAR check, was penalised for handball and booked before Brereton scored the opener from the spot. Took a risk later in the game with a challenge on Hedges that was adjudged as a foul and could have easily seen a subsequent second yellow Photo: Naomi Baker
7. Max Lowe 7
Was the unlikely United hero in terms of getting them back in the game with a deflected volley after Brereton had put the away side ahead from the spot. But was sloppy in possession in the lead up to Rovers' second goal, giving a poor touch and seconds later the ball was in United's net again. Redeemed himself somewhat with good work to keep the ball in the build-up to McBurnie's equaliser Photo: Jan Kruger
8. Tommy Doyle 9
That winning goal. That's it. That's the rating. Photo: Andrew Yates
