But who caught the eye for the Blades against the Toffees? Here’s our player ratings from the game.

Aaron Ramsdale 6

Good early handling saw him claim an Everton corner under pressure from two strikers and he wasn't happy with his defenders at all after a heavy backpass gave him an unnecessary headache. Had to be alert to Iwobi's shot from outside the box. Dropped a fairly routine-looking free-kick from Sigurdsson in the wet conditions and was relieved to hear the ref's whistle a few moments later. No chance with the goal

George Baldock 6

Kept young Gordon quiet down the Everton left and was an ever-willing runner forward himself. Saw yellow for catching Godfrey after the Everton man went rampaging down the wing

Sent the powerful Doucoure tumbling to the turf in one physical challenge before spraying the ball brilliantly to the left flank. Got forward as often as he could from defence and was again pushed into midfield as the Blades went in search of an equaliser

John Egan 6

Timed a challenge brilliantly to stop Calvert-Lewin from breaking in a dangerous area down the Everton left. Marshalled the England man well, to the point he punched away the ball in frustration and picked up a booking. Almost got United back on terms in freak circumstances when his cross was taken by the wind and Pickford was forced to touch it over

Jack Robinson 6

Forced into defensive action from the kick-off with an aerial battle with Calvert-Lewin but will have breathed a sigh of relief when the former United man volleyed wide after getting the better of him from a long ball forward. Got Ramsdale out of trouble after he dropped Sigurdsson's free-kick and his long-throw gave United a different weapon with which to test Everton in horrible conditions. Had his pocket picked by Doucoure in his own area but Stevens recovered to clear. Good block to deny Bernard moments before Sigurdsson opened the scoring

Enda Stevens 6

An inviting left-wing cross was headed away by Keane before a nice bit of link-up with McGoldrick almost fashioned a chance. Did well to bail out his mate Robinson after Doucoure robbed him inside his own box

Ethan Ampadu 6

Was neat and tidy on the ball early in the game and also looked to get forward and support attacks when the situation arose. Had a bit of treatment when he took a whack from Davies after winning a header. Got Norwood out of trouble by getting back and clearing from Sigurdsson after his teammate gave the ball away to Calvert-Lewin

Ben Osborn 7

Came into the side at the expense of John Fleck, dropped to the bench after being withdrawn early against Brighton last weekend. Terrier-like when Everton had the ball but also showed composure when he had it, too. Clever quick throw saw Burke enjoy a great chance on stroke of half-time. A positive performance in midfield and did more than enough to keep the shirt, for me

David McGoldrick 6

Played in the No.10 position from the start after the Blades slightly changed their shape with the absence of John Lundstram and Sander Berge. Saw an effort cleared off the line by Godfrey, but the goal would have been ruled out for offside anyway. Came off for Ollie Norwood

Rhian Brewster 6

Good closing down early in the game to put pressure on Pickford and good vision saw him pick a pass for McGoldrick, but his effort wouldn't have counted anyway. Looked to get a bit frustrated as the game went on and made way with 15 minutes to go without opening his account as a Blades player

Oliver Burke 6

Came into the side after his impressive cameo off the bench at Brighton. Shrugged off a knock he picked up in the first half to enjoy United's best chance of the first half, right on the whistle - shrugging off Doucoure but curling his shot wide. Made way at half time for McBurnie

Subs

Oli McBurnie 6

Came off the bench at half-time to replace Burke, who looked to be suffering from the after-effects of his earlier knock. Had appeals for a penalty when Keane shoved him in the back but the ref said no and VAR backed him up. Got his head to an injury-time corner five yards out but couldn't make good enough contact to test Pickford. Snatched at a shot with the last kick of the game, which just about summed up United’s evening

Ollie Norwood 6

Came on for McGoldrick with just over 25 minutes of normal time remaining. Swung in a dangerous corner but Egan couldn't divert it goalwards. Will have felt a sense of relief when his pass was intercepted deep in United territory but Ampadu helped him out

Lys Mousset n/a

Made his return after an ankle injury when he replaced Brewster with 15 minutes of normal time to go
