Sheffield United Player Ratings after disappointing defeat to Newcastle United

There were no stand out performers in the Sheffield United side as the Blades went down 2-0 to Newcastle United at Bramall Lane.

A typically combative performance from the Scottish international who was heavily involved early on down the left, linking up well with Stevens and O’Connell in particular

Here's how we rated the players

Kept going until the very last minute and some of his deliveries from the right hand side deserved to be converted
Some delightful passes with either foot but couldn’t quite have the impact on the game he would have liked

Almost opened the scoring early on when his deflected shot drew a good save from Dubravka
Made his first Premier League start and quick feet early on fashioned a chance for Lundstram, before he somehow failed to make contact with a beautiful cross from O’Connell on the left. Sharp was in mid-air, but it’s the kind of chance you’d back him to score
Put a shift in upfront alongside Sharp and could have had a couple of goals, but for good saves from Dubravka in the Newcastle goal. Two of his saves from McBurnie were peaches

Couldn’t do enough to prevent Saint-Maximin from opening scoring, after being skinned by him moments earlier. Got forward at will as the visitors sat in, before being replaced by Luke Freeman
A few bright sparks but couldn’t get on scoresheet
Replaced Norwood in the aftermath of the VAR controversy but couldn’t get Blades back into the game
Could do little about Newcastle’s first goal and gave up on their second, believing the ball was dead after the linesman raised his flag. VAR soon changed the whole mood in the ground.
Took a booking late in the game for dragging back Manquillo as he broke away
