Sheffield United player edges closer to making his Premier League debut ahead of Liverpool clash

Jayden Bogle is believed to be on the verge of being handed his Premier League debut for Sheffield United after manager Chris Wilder, whose side visits Liverpool this weekend, revealed the wing-back was close to starting Sunday’s draw with Fulham.

Wilder has been considering making changes to his first choice eleven in an effort to kickstart United’s season, having seen them take only a point from their opening five matches of the new campaign.

Max Lowe, who like Bogle joined United from Derby County during the close season, was selected for the game against Scott Parker’s side - but was forced off during the first half after suffering a suspected concussion.

Explaining he made the change to facilitate Enda Stevens’ switch to centre-half while Jack O’Connell recovers from knee surgery, Wilder admitted he eventually elected not to call-up Bogle for fear of making too many changes to a defence which employs a complex set of carefully choreographed moves due to United’s preferred 3-5-2 system.

Although Lowe’s likely absence from the tem which travels to Anfield on Saturday means Wilder could again err on the side of caution, Bogle has clearly impressed behind the scenes since arriving at United.

“Jayden was close to playing,” Wilder said. “In the end, we decided to just go with Max because we didn’t want to bring too much inexperience, for want of a better word, all in one go. But he was close because he’s been doing really well. We want that competition to continue.”
