'Fair play...' - Sheffield United's goalscorers react to Steel City derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield United duo, Harrison Burrows and Patrick Bamford, were pleased to see things through as they beat Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Bamford scored inside two minutes at Bramall Lane as the Owls came to town in the latest edition of the Steel City derby, and it didn’t take long for Burrows to double their lead against a Wednesday side that struggled to get themselves going.

Wednesdayites feared the worst, but the visitors started the second half looking much better. Kalvin Phillips’ sending off opened things up, and Charlie McNeill pulled one back to make a game of it.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, both goalscorers admitted that things weren’t easy for the home side - though were pleased to get the job done in the end.

“It’s a great feeling,” Burrows said afterwards. “Going into today’s game there was only one thing we wanted to do, and that was win this game. We’ve done that, so fair play to the boys who put everything into that and came away with the three points.

“Obviously, I think, in the first half we were on top for the majority, and the second half was a completely different game. With 10 men we sat in a little bit and tried to play on the counter, but the boys dug in deep and fought well for the three points.”

Meanwhile, Bamford went on to add, “We said it was important to get the first goal, and I think we became a little bit lacklustre after the first 30. So we knew in the second half we’d have to come and try to put it to bed. Things obviously changed a little bit, made it a bit difficult, but the boys were brilliant.”

United now find themselves in 14th place in the Championship after 33 games played, six points off the play-off places as things stand.
