Femi Seriki shares Sheffield United aim as he looks ahead to building potential new on-pitch partnership

Sheffield United ace Femi Seriki is hoping the Blades can build some momentum ahead of Christmas.

Right-back Femi Seriki believes there is much more to come from Sheffield United in the coming weeks, admitting that they need to approach Christmas in as strong a position as possible.

Seriki made his first appearance in two months for the Blades on Saturday, coming off the bench in their 1-1 draw with Derby County at Bramall Lane after overcoming a knee injury that had kept him out of the previous ten games.

Bringing thrust and quality to United’s right flank, Seriki came close to playing his part in Chris Wilder’s side coming from behind to secure a second successive Championship victory for the first time this season. However, they came up against an inspired Jacob Widell Zetterström in the Derby goal.

Although United struggled for the first hour, they provided plenty of encouragement in the final 30 minutes, particularly following the introduction of Brentford loanee Romelle Donovan, who delivered the cross for Patrick Bamford’s equaliser.

Having collected seven points from their last four matches since the most recent international break, Seriki is targeting further positive results ahead of the November break, with three games remaining before then.

Asked whether there is more to come from the Blades, Seriki told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Yes, 100 per cent. Yes, there are many more gears to come.

“We look at the table, and we're not far off [the play-off places]. Obviously, I think it's three or four games until the international break, so it's important that we get as many points as possible and put ourselves in a [good] position going towards Christmas.”

On a personal note, Seriki will be hoping to play his part in the coming weeks after returning from a spell on the sidelines. He was a key player for the Blades last term, forming a strong partnership with Andre Brooks down United’s right flank.

However, Brooks moved on during the summer, joining Norwich City, meaning Seriki is likely to be tasked with building a rapport with either Tahith Chong or Donovan.

“I played matches with Chongy last year, and we linked up really well,” Seriki added. “Obviously, with Rom coming in, I've not played too many games with him, but we’re working on it on the training ground, and we'll obviously then see the results on the pitch.”
