Sheffield United youngster earns Team of the Week spot as eye-catching run of form continues

Louie Marsh is excelling on loan at Chesterfield, scoring six goals in his first eight games for the club.

Sheffield United attacker Louie Marsh earned a place in the EFL Team of the Week after producing another eye-catching performance for Chesterfield on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Spireites on a season-long loan in August, scored one goal and created another as Paul Cook’s side secured their third win in their last four League Two outings with a 4-2 victory over Tranmere Rovers at the SMH Group Stadium.

With the score level at 1-1 heading into the final ten minutes of the contest, the game exploded into life when Marsh restored Chesterfield’s lead with 83 minutes on the clock, stroking home Dilan Markanday’s low cross via a deflection.

Marsh, who has been in fantastic form since swapping South Yorkshire for North Derbyshire, then turned provider for Chesterfield’s third goal, teeing up Josh Koroma to make it 3-1 just two minutes later.

The Blades attacker, who spent time on loan at Falkirk last season, was also responsible for playing four key passes, registering a 75 per cent passing accuracy, hitting the woodwork and having 70 touches of the ball, meaning it was an impressive all-round display.

Marsh has scored six goals and registered two assists in just eight appearances since joining the Spireites, meaning he has taken full advantage of the opportunity to head out on loan and get some first-team football under his belt.

His performance against Tranmere was worthy of a place in the Team of the Week, making the cut alongside Spireites teammates Koroma and Markanday. Marsh has scored in each of his last three games in all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the win over Tranmere, Chesterfield boss Cook said of Marsh: "Louie is like a lot of players at good clubs. He is in a system at a really good football club where at this moment there are better players than him, that’s the brutal truth of it.

"Louie has found a happy home where he’s playing his football and smiling and doing what he’s good at. We’re delighted, Louie’s delighted and I’m sure Sheffield United are delighted.”
