'Flourishing' - Chesterfield coach outlines Louie Marsh instruction as Sheffield United ace scores again

Sheffield United attacker Louie Marsh was on the scoresheet again for Chesterfield as they beat Tranmere Rovers 4-2 on Saturday.

Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb has confirmed Sheffield United loanee Louie Marsh is among the Spireites players who have been given the licence to express themselves.

Webb made the admission after Marsh continued his excellent run of form by scoring his third goal in his last three games in Chesterfield’s 4-2 win over Tranmere Rovers at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday.

After Dylan Jones had equalised for Tranmere with 59 minutes on the clock, cancelling out Dilan Markanday’s first-half opener, Marsh restored Chesterfield’s lead with just seven minutes of normal time remaining, stroking home, via a deflection, Markanday’s low centre.

Despite Marsh restoring Chesterfield’s lead with 83 minutes on the clock, that was the first of four goals that arrived before the full-time whistle, with the home side increasing their lead to 4-1 via a Josh Koroma brace before Tranmere pulled one back with 94 minutes played, when Jacob Slater rifled a low drive into the bottom corner.

Despite sitting eighth in the table, Chesterfield’s third win in their last four League Two outings means they are now within two points of the top of the table. The recent performances of Marsh, who provided the assist for Koroma’s first goal, Markanday and Koroma have been key to the Spireites’ recent improvement, and Webb has admitted that the trio have the quality to express themselves.

Webb told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Yes, it’s a big thing from us coaching staff and the gaffer that those flair players go and make things happen, go and try things, and have a bit of freedom to express themselves.

“Whether they get that at their parent clubs or not, I’m not at liberty to say. I don’t know about their respective camps. But with us, those lads are given a licence to go and try things and enjoy their football.

“Hopefully, that’s the main reason why they all seem to be flourishing at the moment.”

Marsh’s effort against Tranmere marked his sixth goal in eight games since joining Chesterfield on loan from the Blades at the end of August, meaning he is taking full advantage of the opportunity to earn regular first-team football.

The 22-year-old has also registered two assists, meaning he has recorded eight direct goal involvements in as many games for the Spireites.
