Sheffield United's Championship rivals 'preparing' move for ex-Blades loanee as Millwall 'target' attacker

All the very latest Championship transfer rumours following the start of the fourth week of the summer transfer window.

Sheffield United will be hoping to step up their summer recruitment drive this week after making a winning start to their pre-season preparations at the weekend.

The Blades, who will face Birmingham City in their Championship opener next month, got their pre-season campaign up and running with a 3-1 win over FC Halifax Town on Saturday afternoon. They got the job done via goals from Tom Cannon, Tyrese Campbell and Gustavo Hamer.

Post-match, manager Chris Wilder hinted that he was confident of adding some new faces to his squad sooner rather than later, admitting the club was “excited about a couple of things that will happen over the next 24-48 hours”. At the time of writing, Jaïro Riedewald remains their only signing of the summer thus far.

Championship clubs are actively working hard to try and strengthen their squads ahead of the start of the 2026/27 campaign in just under six weeks time, and plenty of business has already been conducted. With that in mind, here are some of the latest transfer rumours concerning the Blades’ second tier rivals...

Hammers ‘preparing’ McAtee move

West Ham United are ‘preparing an ambitious move’ for Nottingham Forest midfielder and former Blades loanee James McAtee, according to a report by the Mail. The Hammers recently banked an eye-watering fee for Mateus Fernandes, who recently joined Tottenham Hotspur, and are keen to secure a replacement.

It is claimed McAtee, who spent the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns on loan at Bramall Lane, making 75 appearances, has been identified as their ‘preferred replacement’ for the recently departed Portuguese international. He is said to have been put at the top of the Hammers’ transfer shortlist.

McAtee, 23, only joined Forest last summer, arriving from Manchester City for a reported fee of around £30m. He made 26 appearances in his debut season at the City Ground, scoring one goal.

Although West Ham are keen on his signature, it is claimed Oliver Glasner’s recent appointment as Forest boss has ‘strengthened’ the East Midlands outfit’s desire to keep hold of him.

Millwall ‘plotting’ Lisbie swoop

According to a report by Football League World, Millwall are ‘working’ on a deal to try and sign Peterborough United attacker Kyrell Lisbie. The 22-year-old joined the League One club from Braintree Town last May and scored 14 goals in his maiden season at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Primarily a left-winger, Lisbie scored 11 of his 14 goals in League One, including a hat-trick in a 6-1 home win over Wigan Athletic in February. He also racked up seven assists in the league last term.

It is reported Lisbie has ‘landed’ on the Lions’ wish list after frequently impressing for Posh last term. He signed a new contract with the Cambridgeshire outfit as recently as April, committing his future to the club until 2030.

Millwall have been known for trying to poach talent from lower league clubs in recent years, meaning a swoop for Lisbie would not be uncharacteristic. Lisbie’s brother, Kyreece, recently swapped Colchester United for Reading.
