Sheffield United manager Chris Morgan has revealed why the Champions League semi-finals should inspire his team ahead of next month’s play-offs, writes James Shield.

Morgan, whose side complete their League One fixture programme against Preston North End tomorrow, has prepared for the match by watching footage of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund both humble Spanish opposition in midweek.

Reflecting on those first-leg victories over Barcelona and Real Madrid, Morgan told The Star: “They go to show that, in football, you should never write anyone off. Just like the play-offs, it’s not always the teams who go in flying that go through.

“The play-offs, just like those matches, are pressurised games but that’s when you see people grow. Which is why I’m confident in the lads here, because they’re good, honest and hungry bunch pro’s desperate to do well.”

United enter their home fixture with North End guaranteed to finish at least sixth but without a win in three outings.

Morgan added: “Experience is important but we’ve also got young legs and that’s key in the modern game as Dortmund in particular showed.”
