Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder reveals reasoning behind letting Ched Evans leave Bramall Lane on loan

Wilder, whose side continue their pre-season preparations this evening when they face Bradford City at Valley Parade, has “ a couple of bids” in for players after targeting proven Championship quality in this transfer window in an attempt to improve upon last season’s 10th-placed finish in the Championship.

But Evans is set to go the other way out of the Bramall Lane door, with Fleetwood known to be interested in acquiring his services on a temporary basis.

And Wilder, a former Bradford player, revealed: “We’ve set up a loan move for Ched. We’ve looked closely at his situation, and we think it’ll be beneficial for us and Ched that he goes out and plays some games. He could play 20-odd games up until Christmas, gets in a rhythm and then we’ll re-assess it. It’s common knowledge that we’re looking to improve and bring players in that are ready to do the business in the Championship at the top end of the pitch.

“We’ve made no secret of that and we’re working extremely hard to do that. And I’m confident we can.

“Hopefully Ched has a decent six months and then we can assess it in January and go from there.”

United, who have invited former Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick to train with them ahead of their Championship season opener on August 4, are confident of retaining the services of goalkeeper Simon Moore despite rumours of interest from West Bromwich Albion.

Wilder, who remains keen on Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan and Sam Gallagher of Southampton, has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday’s Sam Winnall.
